Yamaha MusicCast Details

Information on how Yamaha MusicCast works.

For a while, I was looking for the perfect device to act as a network streamer (Mainly Spotify) on a company LAN. The WXAD10 from Yamaha seemed the perfect fit. Wired LAN, line level outs, web configuration page. However, it was not working, and since Yamaha do not publish a full list of requirements, some deeper analysis was required.

Initial Setup

The first thing the device will do when booted is get an IP over DHCP (if configured) and then IGMP join group 224.0.0.251.

From here, it will talk to some airable.io addresses. These appear to be API endpoints and an NTP server at ntp.airable.io, which the device promptly gets its time from.
